Carmel Winery
Taking the time to visit Israel's world renowned "wine country" in the Galilee region of the state's northern territory, is a feast for your taste buds. Whether on a family tour to Israel, a Jewish Heritage tour or a private tour to Israel, getting to know Israel's ancient wine production history and experiencing this thriving industry in the present day, is always an entertaining, enriching and tasty experience.
Established in 1882 by the infamous Baron Edmond James de Rothschild, one of the foremost contributors to Israel's agricultural and industrial development and a patron of the states' early settlements, the Carmel Winery is currently Israel's largest wine producer.
With over seven vineyards spread throughout Israel's northern region, from the Golan Heights through the Galilee and on to Zikhron Ya'aqov, the Carmel Winery cultivates a wide range of grapes, yielding an assortment of quality wines such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blank.
The Carmel Winery's employees and connoisseurs are highly professional and experienced, having earned their degrees in wine cultivation from the most prestigious establishments in the world. Carmel Winery's staff has worked in the field of wine production in some of the world's most lucrative wine regions—from California to Napa Valley, Australia to South Africa, France and Italy.
In an effort to make Carmel wines an international brand and draw attention to Israel's busting wine production industry, the Carmel Winery has created a new line for export. Handcrafted Wines of Israel is an independent label, part owned by the Carmel Winery, producing award winning luxurious wines.
Aside from their collection of wines, the Carmel Winery also crafts quality brandy, different liqueurs, and olive oil.
Carmel Winery - Wine Tasting
Shifting the focus of your trip from Israel's traditional tourist destinations to the country's wineries, you are in for a real treat! It is in the vineyards owned by the Carmel Winery that you will discover a different Israel. No longer flavored by the Mediterranean culture and influenced by the heat of the desert (of Israel's southern region), the Carmel Winery's vineyards located in Israel's north are suggestive of a more European temperament. The rolling slopes of the Golan Heights are reminiscent of Tuscany, yet uniquely seasoned with an Israeli touch.
The Carmel Winery has several posts which offer wine tasting classes, aroma classes, wine and food courses and more. This experience is well worth the time and will guarantee you a good meal and some unforgettable wine. Particularly when on a private tour to Israel, make sure to leave time for this one of a kind experience.
For those of you with a penchant for history, the Carmel Winery's wine tasting sessions always have a good dose of history in them. Indeed, the wine tasting is followed by guide through Israel's history as a wine making region, mapping out its ancient methods of wine production, its ancient wine presses and its historic distribution routs.
A visit to any of Carmel's boutique wineries will be a memorable experience for the whole family.
Carmel Winery - For the Kids
Along with its wine tasting classes for adults, some of Carmel's wineries offer mini-classes for children.
Here kids will learn about the production of red wine, about the difference between Kosher and non-Kosher wine, about wine used for Kiddush, and will even get to taste some non-alcoholic wine.
It is important to keep in mind that not all of Carmel 's wineries offer this service and that it is not a year-round amenity. It is therefore advisable to check before arrival.
