ARRIVAL

  • Arrival at Ben Gurion International Airport. Our representative will be on hand to assist with all formalities and ensure your journey has the smoothest of starts.
  • Meet your tour educator who will accompany you on this journey of education and inspiration.
  • Enter Tel Aviv, also known as “the city that never sleeps,” with its centers of culture, recreation and national history, great beaches, and fine stores.
  • Check into the hotel.

Day Three: Tuesday, June 16, 2020
THE TEL AVIV STORY

  • Breakfast at an Israeli hotel is an experience in itself. Start the day with a bounteous buffet.
  • Stroll through the renovated artists' colony of Old Jaffa and the old port and then through the famous Jaffa Flea Market - “Shuk Hapishpeshim.”
  • LaDa'at Ethnic Tasting Tour: Eat, drink, and be educated at the Levinsky Market, where we'll sample food and sweets from all over the Mediterranean and the Middle East and try to figure out what is Israeli about Israeli food. This multi-cultural tasting tour will double up as a delicious lunch.
  • From Hebrew City to Hebrew State: Walk along the newly-opened Independence Trail and embark on a remarkable journey that begins with the founding of Tel Aviv in 1909 and ends with the establishment of Israel in 1948.
  • Stop at Rabin Square, a center of culture and politics, named for Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin who was assassinated here. Take a quiet moment at the Rabin Memorial.

Adults:

  • Walk through the museum at the Rabin Center, dedicated to the history of society and democracy in Israel. The life of the late Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin serves as a time-thread connecting the faces and events of modern Israeli history.

Children:

  • Hallelujah! A People and Their Prayers: Experience the diversity and dynamism of Jewish life at the rejuvenated Beit Hatfutsot: The Museum of the Jewish People. Younger (and not so young) visitors will be inspired and entertained by Heroes: Trailblazers of the Jewish People, an interactive exhibition about Jews who have changed the world.

All:

  • Enjoy a Middle-Eastern-style dinner at Maganda, serving a varied menu of traditional salads and grilled meats in Tel Aviv's Yemenite Quarter.

Day Four: Wednesday, June 17, 2020
ALONG THE WATER

  • Breakfast at the hotel, followed by check-out.
  • Drive to Caesarea, one of the Lands of Israel's most important landmarks, built during the Roman Period. Tour the Herodian Theater and the excavations along the Mediterranean shore, concluding with the ruined 900-year-old Crusader town.
  • Walk through the 2,000-year-old water tunnel at Park Alona, the water source for ancient
  • Lunch (not included in the package), en route to Haifa.
  • From the top of Mount Carmel, view the Baha'i Gardens and gold-domed Shrine of the Bab, one of the holiest sites of the Baha'i religion.
  • Drive to Tsfat.
  • LaDa'at Families in Tsfat: Find your way through the alleyways of Tsfat, uncovering the hidden words, secret codes, and mystical messages on a family scavenger hunt through the Old City of the ancient Kabbalists.
  • Continue to the Upper Galilee and check into the hotel.
  • Dinner at the hotel.

Day Five: Thursday, June 18, 2020
SERENITY AND SECURITY ON THE GOLAN

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Take a jeep tour off-road on the Golan Heights to enjoy the beautiful natural scenery and gain insight into the strategic complexity of the Golan.
  • Enjoy the culinary delights of a chocolate workshop at the De Karina Chocolate Factory on Kibbutz Ein Zivan.
  • Lunch (not included in the package).
  • Time permitting, walk through the Tel Dan Nature Reserve, located on the largest tributary of the Jordan River, and examine the ruins of the great biblical city of Dan.
  • Enjoy rafting or kayaking down the Jordan River.
  • Return to the hotel for dinner.

Day Six: Friday, June 19, 2020
THE BEAUTY OF NATURE IN THE VALLEY

  • Breakfast at the hotel, followed by check-out.
  • Visit the Hula Lake (Agamon HaHula) for bike-riding, golf-carting, nature walks, and bird-watching.
  • Lunch (not included in the package), en route.
  • Continue driving through the Jordan Valley.
  • A First Look at the Holy City: Over the centuries, many have been moved by their first sight of Jerusalem. We'll stop for a stunning overview of the city and celebrate our arrival with the traditional “shehechiyanu” blessing of thanksgiving.
  • Check into the hotel.
  • Join Jerusalemites in a musical Kabbalat Shabbat at the Old Train Station Plaza, a central neighborhood hub for food, entertainment, culture, and enrichment.
  • Festive Shabbat dinner at a local restaurant.

Day Seven: Saturday, June 20, 2020
INTO THE DESERT, MASADA & THE DEAD SEA

  • Early breakfast at the hotel.
  • Depart the hotel and descend to the Dead Sea Basin.

Option 1:

  • Climb Masada via the Snake Path, Herod's mountain palace and the site of the Jewish Zealots' last stand against the Roman Legionnaires. Discuss Masada's role as a symbol of Jewish defense and its current significance in modern Israel.

Option 2:

  • Ascend by cable car to Masada, Herod's mountain palace and the site of the Jewish Zealots' last stand against the Roman Legionnaires. Discuss Masada's role as a symbol of Jewish defense and its current significance in modern Israel.

All:

  • Take a short hike to Nahal David, the freshwater spring and waterfalls in the Ein Gedi Nature Reserve, where David hid from King Saul.
  • Lunch (not included in the package), en route.
  • Experience the weightlessness of the Dead Sea as you float in its waters.
  • Return to Jerusalem, driving via Qumran, the area where the Dead Sea Sect established a community, and the caves where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found.
  • Return to the hotel.
  • Ben Kodesh Lechol: Havdallah overlooking the Old City.
  • Dinner at Focaccia Bar, a spacious, family-friendly restaurant built around a patio. One corner is occupied by a “tabun” oven that churns out the restaurant's signature focaccia, served hot with a choice of dips and toppings (not included in the package; a reservation will be made).

Day Eight: Sunday, June 21, 2020
MEMORIES NEAR AND FAR

  • Breakfast at the hotel.

Adults:

  • Visit Yad Vashem, the Jewish National Memorial to the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust, including the Avenue of the Righteous, the new Historical Museum, the Children's Memorial, and a community Yizkor

Children (with an adult):

  • Visit the Biblical Zoo, a beautifully landscaped habitat with a special focus on preserving biblical fauna, geared to children of all ages (2-80) OR the interactive Bloomfield Science Museum.

All:

  • Take a multi-cultural tasting journey (doubling as a delicious lunch) through the hustle and bustle of Jerusalem's Machane Yehuda open-air market: Enjoy the sights, smells, tastes, and sounds of this vibrant area where Jerusalemites shop.
  • Take part in an archaeological dig at the Beit Guvrin Caves. Get your hands dirty uncovering pottery from the Hellenistic period, 2,300 years ago, and then crawl through the Maresha Cave Labyrinth (non-crawling options are available) in this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
  • Return to the hotel.
  • Free time in the Mamilla Mall, an upscale shopping street and the only open-air mall in Jerusalem, located outside the Jaffa Gate of the Old City. Dinner (not included in the package).
  • Watch the Night Spectacular at the Tower of David Museum: The walls of the Citadel serve as a stage for a night-time show - a celebration of sight and sound depicting the story of Jerusalem.

Day Nine: Monday, June 22, 2020
HISTORY AND SPIRITUALITY IN JERUSALEM

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Return to the Old City and attend a Bnai Mitzvah Ceremony at the Southern Wall steps, where Jewish pilgrims entered the Temple Mount 2,000 years ago.
  • Explore the Jerusalem Archaeological Park, Davidson Center, and Robinson's Arch.
  • Discover the archeological treasures and other highlights of the Jewish Quarter:
  • The Cardo, the main street of Jerusalem in the 6th century.
  • Hurva Square, the central square of the Jewish Quarter.
  • Lunch (not included in the package) in Jewish Quarter.
  • Become your favorite biblical character! Live the Bible's authentic costumes and amazing backgrounds provide a fun photo opportunity for you to dress up like Moses, Ruth or a Temple Priest.
  • Walk through the Western Wall Tunnel, the underground continuation of the Western Wall alongside the Temple Mount.
  • Stop at the Kotel (Western Wall) and experience the special atmosphere of this holy site.
  • Tour the excavations at the City of David, the very core of ancient Jerusalem. View the Gihon Spring and wade through the 2,700-year-old water tunnel of King Hezekiah (optional dry exit).
  • Return to the hotel.

  • Festive farewell dinner.
  • Transfer to Ben Gurion International Airport for your return flight to the US, arriving the next day.

  • Late afternoon Check into the hotel.

Day Three: Thursday, June 25, 2020
PETRA

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Check out of the hotel.
  • Tour of the ancient Nabatean City of Petra, situated between the Red Sea and the Dead Sea - an important ancient crossroad between Arabia, Egypt, and Syria-Phoenicia. Petra, half-built, half-carved into the rock, is surrounded by mountains riddled with passages and gorges and is one of the world's most famous archaeological sites, where ancient Eastern traditions blend with Hellenistic architecture.
  • Lunch at a local hotel/restaurant.
  • Late afternoon returns to the Arava Border Crossing and transfers back to the airport.
  • Transfer to Ben Gurion Airport and fly to THE USA

Need to Know

REGISTRATION DEADLINE: 14 Mar 2020

  • Group rates are per person based on double occupancy and a minimum of 30 full paying participants. Should the number of participants drop below the minimum listed above, we will adjust the cost of the trip to reflect the additional expense of operating the program.
  • Tour prices are per person in US. dollars. All hotel accommodations, motor coach transportation, special dinners, sightseeing, admissions, luggage handling and the services of local guides, drivers, and the tour guide/educator are included.

PAYMENT POLICY

Da'at Educational Expeditions reserves the right to adjust its terms of payment, including cancelation policies and initial deposits. Notification of any changes will be made explicitly to the participants where relevant.

  • Initial deposit of $500 per person, non-refundable, non-transferable is due at the time of reservation unless another amount is indicated for the particular trip or seminar.
  • Final payment is due 90 days before the scheduled trip begins, or as specified in your invoice.

CANCELATION POLICY

Cancelations need to be made in writing. Cancelation fees will be based on the date that the written cancelation is received.

Cancelation fees:

  • 90 days or more prior to departure: the deposit
  • 89 to 46 days prior to departure: 50% of the total trip cost
  • 45 days to the day of departure/no-show: 100% of the total trip cost

Cancelation fees may also include:

  • Hotel or supplier cancelation fees.
  • For trips in Israel only: The cost of the PEACE OF MIND TRAVEL PROTECTION PROGRAM (POM), if this was purchased.
  • Group airfare penalty fee.

TRAVEL INSURANCE

We strongly recommend that you purchase your own travel insurance. Please discuss land, air and health insurance options with your insurance provider or contact Travel Insured at 1-800-344-6226, ext. 257. Some insurance programs provide more comprehensive coverage when the policy is purchased in close proximity to the initial trip deposit. We therefore recommend that you secure insurance within 14 days of your initial deposit payment date.

HOTEL ACCOMMODATIONS

The trip price includes all hotel accommodations, in hotel rooms with private baths. Our standard is to provide the best available hotels while considering value. Although the level of the accommodations may differ slightly from hotel to hotel, we are committed to your comfort. Standard-size rooms are generally smaller outside of North America. They usually accommodate two people and include either one queen-size bed or two single beds (pushed together and made up separately, but with one headboard). While some hotels provide an extra bed in a standard-size room for use by a child under the age of 12, we recommend that families of four or more should book adjoining or connecting rooms.

are included as specified in the itinerary.

TOUR EDUCATOR OR GUIDE

All trips are conducted by our tour educators or local guides who remain with the group throughout the tour.

GRATUITIES INCLUDED:

All gratuities for restaurant staff at group meals are included.

PRICE EXCLUDES

  • Credit card fees
  • Transportation in the evening when dinner is on own.
  • Amendments to the program: In the event that any sites, programs or meals etc are added to the program, an additional fee may be required.
  • Personal extras: Items of personal nature such as laundry, wines, mineral water, beverages, coffee, tea, food other than the table d'hotel menu, passport and visa fees, insurance, and foreign port taxes, unless otherwise specified.
  • Water or snacks on the bus (unless indicated otherwise)
  • US and foreign airport taxes, Q fuel surcharge and border taxes when applicable.
  • Gratuities for Tour Educator (Guide) and Driver. We recommend the following guidelines for tips (amounts indicated in US dollars):
    Group of 20 participants and more:
    Tour Educator: $8 | Driver: $4 - per participant per day
    Hostess (when included in the package):
    $2 per participant per day or a minimum of $50 per day total
    A security guard and/or a youth counselor (when included):
    $1 per participant per day per security guard, per youth counselor


Guidelines for Registering Children (under age 18):

  • The first two people in any double or triple room are charged full package rates as adults, even if the second person is a child under the age of 18.

    For this reason, the first two people you select for a double or triple room MUST be selected as adults in order for the registration process to succeed.
