  • Arrival at Ben Gurion International Airport. Our representative will be on hand to assist with all formalities and ensure your journey has the smoothest of starts.
  • Meet your tour educator who will accompany you on this journey of education and inspiration.
  • Neve Zedek was one of Tel Aviv's first neighborhoods as the city grew outside of Jaffa. Stroll through this stylish area with its boutiques, galleries, and the Suzanne Dellal Center, Israel's world-class home of contemporary dance.
  • Stroll down the Nahalat Binyamin pedestrian mall, with its bi-weekly craft fair and eateries. Alongside is the colorful Carmel Market.
  • Check into the hotel (Rooms available for check-in from 3:00 p.m.).

Afternoon Arrivals:

  • Arrival at Ben Gurion International Airport. Our representative will be on hand to assist with all formalities and ensure your journey has the smoothest of starts.
  • Meet your tour educator who will accompany you on this journey of education and inspiration.
  • Drive to Tel Aviv, also known as “the city that never sleeps.” A place of sun and fun, its centers of culture and history are complemented by great beaches, stores, and entertainment.
  • Check into the hotel.

DAY 3: Saturday, December 26, 2020


  • Breakfast at the hotel.

Option 1:

  • Shabbat services at Kehillat Beit Daniel in Tel Aviv, led by Rabbi Meir Azari.
  • Enjoy lunch (not included in package) at the Sarona Market. Through the smells, flavors, and tastes of this renovated historical Templars town, explore the range of cuisine - from local street food to fine dining by world-renowned Israeli chefs.

Option 2:

  • What's Going On in Bohemian Tel Aviv? Join a local expert on Tel Aviv's alternative scene for an urban adventure and graffiti tour. Explore the latest street art and find out what it reveals about life, ideas, and ideology in Israel's cultural capital. 
  • Arming for Independence: Visit the Ayalon Institute near Rehovot and uncover its role in the establishment of the State of Israel. This secret ammunition factory produced millions of bullets for Jewish forces fighting for a Jewish State and the end of British rule over Palestine.
  • Lunch (not included in package).


  • Meet at Rabin Square.

Option 1:

  • Hallelujah! A People and their Prayers: Experience the diversity and dynamism of Jewish life at the rejuvenated Beit Hatfutsot: The Museum of the Jewish People. A highlight is their new Synagogue Exhibition which combines the museum's famed collection of synagogue models with thrilling video art exploring the places where Jews pray, around the world and through the ages.

Option 2:

  • Become an IAF Combat Pilot for a Day! The Squadron's world-class flight simulators put you into the cockpit of an F-16 fighter plane on a secret operation over Israel. After briefings from real-life Israel Air Force pilots, design your mission and show off your Top Gun skills. You can fly solo or in formation with your squadron. Getting any closer to reality would be dangerous.


  • Return to the hotel.
  • Ben Kodesh Lechol: Havdallah on the beach.
  • The City at Night: Tel Aviv's food scene is on fire with world-class chefs and a huge range of happening restaurants. See and taste for yourself during a free evening with dinner (not included in package). Afterward, those who love the nightlife can sample the city's bar, club, and café culture or stroll along the refurbished promenade and port.

DAY 4: Sunday, December 27, 2020


  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Check out of the hotel and drive south.
  • The Old Man and the Desert: Visit the grave of Israel's founding father, David Ben-Gurion at Kibbutz Sde Boker. We'll discuss why Ben-Gurion, the “grand old man” of Israel's public life and the country's first Prime Minister, abandoned the political scene for life in an isolated Kibbutz in the Negev Desert, overlooking the Wilderness of Zinn, followed by a short hike in the Ein Avdat Nature Reserve.
  • Continue to the Chan Hashayarot encampment in the Negev Desert for Bedouin-style hospitality and lunch.
  • How Fast Can This Thing Go? Take a camel for a test drive as you ride into the heart of the desert.
  • Possible afternoon activities (pending location and number of participants, we can offer 2-4 activities):
    • Go sandboarding in the Negev! Sandboarding is one of those iconic desert experiences which remains with you forever. Israel's Negev Desert is largely a rock desert; however, one area contains sweeping sand dunes and it is here that sandboarding allows you to glide down the dunes and experience the thrill of this amazing activity.
    • Rappel down the cliffs of the Ramon Crater.
    • Bike ride along the rim of the Crater.
    • View the multi-faceted nature of the Ramon Crater at the Mitzpe Ramon Visitors' Center.
  • As Low as It Goes: Drive to the Dead Sea Basin, 1412 feet below sea level and the lowest place on earth. The desert, the landscape, and the views are breathtaking.
  • Check into the hotel and enjoy dinner.

DAY 5: Monday, December 28, 2020


  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • The Last Stand: Climb (about 45 minutes) via the Snake Path OR take the cable car to the top of Masada with its extraordinary views and fascinating archaeological remains. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is where Jewish rebels are believed to have made their final attempt to resist Roman invaders (c 74 CE) before committing mass suicide. We'll learn about Masada's importance as a symbol of Jewish defense and discuss its influence on modern Israel.
  • B'nai Mitzvah ceremony at the Ancient Synagogue on top of Masada.
  • Return to the hotel for lunch.
  • The Sea of Salt: Float into happiness at the Dead Sea. Not much can live or swim in what is the saltiest piece of water in the world, nine times saltier than the ocean, but the weightless feeling of floating is great fun.
  • Muddy Good Fun: Coat yourself in the famous Dead Sea mud, a time-honored tradition enjoyed by all ages. For thousands of years, it has been believed that the mud and minerals of the Dead Sea have special healing and beauty qualities. See and feel for yourself.

Option 1:

  • Continue swimming at the Dead Sea.

Option 2:

  • Off road Jeep tour in the Judean Desert.

DAY 6: Tuesday, December 29, 2020


  • Breakfast at the hotel, followed by check-out.
  • Take a short hike to Nahal David, the freshwater spring and waterfalls in the Ein Gedi Nature Reserve, a lush oasis in the Judean Desert overlooking the Dead Sea.
  • We'll drive by Qumran, where a separatist Jewish sect from the Second Temple period created an isolated community and where the Dead Sea Scrolls, some of the most ancient and important religious manuscripts in existence, were discovered.
  • Take a multi-cultural tasting journey through the hustle and bustle of Jerusalem's Mahane Yehuda open-air market: Enjoy the sights, smells, tastes and sounds of this vibrant area where Jerusalemites shop. This doubles as a delicious lunch.
  • Giving Thanks for the Holy City: The Kotel (Western Wall), is widely considered to be Judaism's holiest existing site. It will be the ideal location as we celebrate our arrival in Jerusalem with a special ceremony and the traditional “shehechiyanu” blessing of thanksgiving.
  • Going Under, Going Deeper: Explore the Western Wall Tunnel, the underground continuation of the Kotel, and examine important archaeological discoveries that are revising our understanding of daily life in ancient Jerusalem.
  • Check into the hotel.
  • The City at Night: Israel's food scene is on fire with world-class chefs and a huge range of happening restaurants. See and taste for yourself with dinner (not included in package). We'll be happy to make recommendations and reservations so that you can enjoy a night out at the ideal Israeli restaurant for you.

DAY 7: Wednesday, December 30, 2020

  • Da'at Encounters Navigate Your Way Through the Labyrinth of Israel Politics: Join Professor Reuven Hazan of the Political Science Department at Hebrew University for an introduction into Israel's turbulent political scene where coalition governments and powerful ideological divisions are a fact of life.


  • Da'at Encounters Let's Get Ready to Rumble: Hone your defense and fight skills with an early-morning session of Krav Maga, the martial art developed by the Israel Defense Forces that has spread around the world. A professional trainer will take you through your paces.


  • Yemin Moshe Scavenger Hunt - Discover the fabulous story of the expansion of Jerusalem beyond the Old City. Wandering from the Montefiore Windmill through the winding alleys of Yemin Moshe with an Israel ScaVentures picture pack, you will learn the story of a frontier neighborhood that became one of Jerusalem's most beautiful neighborhoods.


  • Return to the Old City.
  • Take a walking tour through Jerusalem's Old City and the Jewish Quarter and experience the center of Jewish life, history, and holiness. Among the highlights will be:
    • A walk along the rooftops that will provide an extraordinary scene of multi-faith Jerusalem. From this one spot, we will see the domes of three great religious landmarks: The Church of the Holy Sepulchre (marking where Jesus is believed to have been crucified); the Jewish Quarter's Hurva synagogue; and the Dome of the Rock, one of Islam's most sacred and beautiful sites.
    • The Cardo, the main street of Roman-controlled Jerusalem and its spectacular Byzantine-era columns.
    • King Hezekiah's “Broad Wall,” a massive wall built to protect Jerusalem from invasion 2,700 years ago.
    • Hurva Square, the center of modern-day life in the Jewish Quarter.
    • Become Your Favorite Biblical Character! Live the Bible's authentic costumes and backgrounds provide a fun photo opportunity for you to dress up like Moses, Ruth, or a Temple Priest.
  • Walk through Jerusalem's famous Old City Shuk (market), with time for lunch (not included in package).
  • The Jerusalem Archaeological Park is a large-scale excavation that has uncovered vital parts of ancient Jerusalem. A particular highlight is to walk on the Southern Wall steps used by Jewish pilgrims to enter the Temple, 2,000 years ago. But there is much else to see, including Robinson's Arch, the remains of a major Second Temple-period street, and drainage tunnels used by Jewish fighters hiding from the Roman invaders. A museum, including movies and a 3-D model of ancient Jerusalem, add to the experience.

Teens & Children:

  • Scavenger Hunt in Jerusalem - Explore Ben Yehuda Street and the Nahalat Shiva pedestrian malls, joining the many Israelis out on the town, concluding with a pizza dinner & ice cream.

DAY 8: Thursday, December 31, 2019 | New Year's Eve


  • Breakfast at the hotel.

Option 1 (for adults and children age 14 and older):

  • Visit the Yad Vashem complex, the Jewish National Memorial to the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust, including:
    • The Avenue of the Righteous.
    • The new Historical Museum.
    • The Children's Memorial.

Option 2 (for pre-teens ages 11 to 13):

  • LaDa'at Yad Vashem for Kids: Special children's program at the Yad Vashem complex. Guided visits to the “No Child's Play” exhibit, the Children's Memorial, and the Sculpture Garden use interactive programming, arts & crafts, and children's stories and diaries from the time of the Holocaust.

Option 3:

  • Visit the Biblical Zoo, a beautifully landscaped habitat with a special focus on preserving biblical fauna, geared to children of all ages (2-80).


  • Concluding memorial service at Yad Vashem.
  • Lunch (not included in package).
  • Giving Back With Pantry Packers: Participate in a Tikkun Olam activity by packing commodity food staples for Israel's poorest families; after a brief orientation session, don gloves, aprons, and caps in order to fill bags of rice, beans, and other commodities.
  • Return to the hotel.
  • Toast for a New Year: Enjoy a relaxed, homestyle dinner at Ima, located near the Mahane Yehuda market, offering a menu of Middle Eastern, Kurdish-style food.

DAY 9: Friday, January 1, 2021 | Happy New Year


  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Diggin' for Roots: Get in touch with the land and history of Israel. Take part in an archaeological dig at the Beit Guvrin Caves. Get your hands dirty uncovering pottery from the Hellenistic period, 2300 years ago, and then crawl through the Maresha Cave Labyrinth (non-crawling options are available) in this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
  • Lunch (not included in package).
  • Return to Jerusalem.
  • Making Our Mark: Feel the land and help it flourish with a tree planting ceremony. After the ceremony, explore the Gazelle Valley Park, a 250-acre haven of nature in urban Jerusalem with wildlife, including 30 gazelles, roaming through the park.
  • Return to the hotel.
  • Kabbalat Shabbat services at Azarat Israel, the pluralistic section of the Kotel (Western Wall).
  • Festive Shabbat dinner at the hotel, possibly with lone soldiers (servicemen or women without immediate family in Israel).

DAY 10: Saturday, January 2, 2021


  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Shabbat services at Kehillat Mevasseret in Mevasseret Zion, led by Rabbi Alona Nir-Keren.
  • Together with the families from Kehillat Mevasseret Zion, enjoy lunch in the pastoral Arab village of Abu Ghosh, outside of Jerusalem. Abu Gosh is known for its hummus, and the village has turned into Israel's “hummus center.”

Afternoon tour with members of kehilat Mevasseret:

Option 1:

  • Return to Mevasseret Zion for an afternoon hike down Nahal Halilim.

Option 2:

  • Behind the Scenes of Abu Gush: Walking tour of the village with a chance to meet the residents. Discuss their special bond and unique rules that the families of Abu Gush have developed with their neighbors in the past century.

Both options:

  • Return to the hotel.
  • Late check out of the hotel by 6 p.m.
  • Looking Forward: Summary session followed by a farewell dinner.
  • Group transfer to Ben Gurion International Airport and check in for your departure flight.

DAY 11: Sunday, January 3, 2021


  • Return to the US.

Need to Know


  • Group rates are per person based on double occupancy and a minimum of 53 full-paying participants. Should the number of participants drop below the minimum listed above, we will adjust the cost of the trip to reflect the additional expense of operating the program.
  • Tour prices are per person in U.S. dollars. All hotel accommodations, motor coach transportation, special dinners, sightseeing, admissions, luggage handling and the services of local guides, drivers, and the tour guide/educator are included.

Da'at Educational Expeditions reserves the right to adjust its terms of payment, including cancelation policies and initial deposits. Notification of any changes will be made explicitly to the participants where relevant.

  • Initial deposit of $500 per person, non-refundable, non-transferable is due at the time of reservation unless another amount is indicated for the particular trip or seminar.
  • Final payment is due 90 days before the scheduled trip begins, or as specified in your invoice.

Cancelations need to be made in writing. Cancelation fees will be based on the date that the written cancelation is received.

Cancelation fees:

  • 90 days or more prior to departure: the deposit
  • 89 to 46 days prior to departure: 50% of the total trip cost
  • 45 days to the day of departure/no-show: 100% of the total trip cost

Cancelation fees may also include:

  • Hotel or supplier cancelation fees.
  • For trips in Israel only: The cost of the PEACE OF MIND TRAVEL PROTECTION PROGRAM (POM), if this was purchased.
  • Group airfare penalty fee.

We strongly recommend that you purchase your own travel insurance. Please discuss land, air and health insurance options with your insurance provider or contact Travel Insured at 1-800-344-6226, ext. 257. Some insurance programs provide more comprehensive coverage when the policy is purchased in close proximity to the initial trip deposit. We, therefore, recommend that you secure insurance within 14 days of your initial deposit payment date.


  • The trip price includes hotel accommodations.
  • Our standard is to provide the best available hotels while considering value. Although the level of accommodations may differ slightly from hotel to hotel, we are committed to your comfort.
  • We reserve the right to make substitutions with hotels of equal standard. No refunds will be issued for differences between hotel prices.
  • The standard hotel room in Israel is generally smaller than in the US, comfortably accommodating two people in either one queen-size bed or two single beds. Some hotels offer triple rooms consisting of standard twin beds plus a sofa/folding bed or cot for the third person.
  • Special requests such as room selections, bed types, and smoking preferences are subject to availability and are strictly at the discretion of the hotel's management on a run-of-house basis.
  • All hotel rates are non-negotiable and are based on the agreements made between Da'at Educational Expeditions and its suppliers.
  • Hotel check-in time is generally not before 3:00 p.m. and check-out time is prior to noon. If you are taking a late-night flight, make sure to organize adequate arrangements for accommodation until you are ready to leave for the airport. If a day room is included in the itinerary, check-out time will usually be at 6:00 p.m.

All trips are conducted by our tour educators or local guides who remain with the group throughout the tour.

All gratuities for restaurant staff at group meals are included.


  • Transportation in the evening when dinner is on own.
  • Amendments to the program: In the event that any sites, programs or meals etc are added to the program, an additional fee may be required.
  • Personal extras: Items of personal nature such as laundry, wines, mineral water, beverages, coffee, tea, food other than the table d'hotel menu, passport and visa fees, insurance, and foreign port taxes, unless otherwise specified.
  • Water or snacks on the bus (unless indicated otherwise)
  • US and foreign airport taxes, Q fuel surcharge and border taxes when applicable.

    Tour Educator: $8 | Driver: $4 - per participant per day


  • The first two people in any double or triple room are charged full package rates as adults, even if the second person is a child under the age of 18.

    For this reason, the first two people you select for a double or triple room MUST be selected as adults in order for the registration process to succeed.
