ARRIVAL

  • Arrive at Ben Gurion International Airport.
  • Welcome by our representative and assistance with arrival formalities.
  • Enter the city of Tel Aviv, known as the “city that never sleeps,” with its centers of culture, recreation and national history, great beaches and fine stores.
  • Check into the hotel.
  • Welcome to Israel and bring in the spirit of Shabbat followed by Shabbat dinner and orientation at the hotel.

Day Three: Saturday, October 26, 2019
SHABBAT IN TEL AVIV            

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Shabbat experience led by Rabbi Hronsky on the beach.
  • Visit the Rubin House, the former residence and studio of one of Israel’s pioneering modern artist, Reuven Rubin, featuring interactive presentations. The tour will be guided by Carmela Rubin, his daughter-in-law and the curator of the collection.
  • Lunch on own, en route.
  • Walk through colorful Neve Zedek, one of Tel Aviv’s earliest neighborhoods, nowadays a cultural mecca hosting small boutiques, galleries, and the Suzanne Dellal dance and theater center.
  • Enjoy dinner on own at the Sarona Market. Through the smells, flavors and tastes of this renovated historical Templers town, explore the range of cuisine - from local street food to fine dining by world-renowned Israeli chefs.

Day Four: Sunday, October 27, 2019
TEL AVIV: THE FIRST HEBREW CITY

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Visit the Old City of Jaffa and ascend from the old port through the renovated alleyways to the Jaffa Overlook for an introduction to Tel Aviv at the place where it all began.
  • Walk through Jaffa’s famous Flea Market – “Shuk Hapishpeshim.”
  • Proceed to Ilana Goor’s Art Gallery to see her work as well as her famous collection of paintings and sculptures made by other artists.
  • LaDa’at Ethnic Tasting Tour: walk through Tel Aviv’s famous Levinsky Market, where you'll find a combination of foods and sweets from all over the Mediterranean and hear the unique stories of the individuals who sell them; lunch on own if still hungry!
  • Urban Culture Tours of Tel Aviv, Combining Street Art, Language & Graffiti: Join a local artist and resident of the Florentine neighborhood, to explore the urban culture of the city.
  • Drinks on us! Whiskey tasting at Milk and Honey, the first single-malt whiskey distillery in Israel.
  • Dinner on own in the renovated Old Port of Tel Aviv, with its wonderful restaurants, cafés, and shops, right on the water’s edge; OR at the Tachana, Jaffa’s Old railway station renovated and restored as a great pedestrian complex, with restaurants, shops and open spaces for people-watching.

Day Five: Monday, October 28, 2019
A MOSAIC OF ISRAELI LIFE

  • Breakfast at the hotel, followed by check-out.
  • Depart Tel Aviv and drive north along the coastal plain to the famous Ein Hod artist colony, south of Haifa. Guided by a local artist, explore some of the galleries throughout the village.
  • Lunch on own, en route.
  • Proceed to the Yemin Orde Youth Village, an innovative educational institution, specializing in integrating new immigrant youth into Israeli society. Meet with faculty and students.
  • Participate in a hands-on Israeli cooking experience with Galileat at a local Arab home and explore the world of Arab cooking. Dinner is included.
  • Drive north to the Upper Galilee and check into the kibbutz hotel.

Day Six: Tuesday, October 29, 2019
A MOSAIC GALILEE COMMUNITIES

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Depart the hotel and watch the panoramic views from Bental (overlooking the abandoned Syrian town of Kuneitra) and gain sharp insights into Israel’s security situation on the Golan Heights and the enormous challenges it faced in the 1973 Yom Kippur War.
  • Take a nature hike to the Suspended Trail above the spectacular canyon of the Banias Stream, at the foot of Mount Hermon.
  • Lunch on own, en route.
  • Let reform kabbalist and musician Rabbi Or Zohar take you through a magical mystery tour of the ancient city of Tsfat. Walk with him through this town's alleyways, synagogues, tombstones, and lookout points, and unravel its wonders and secrets;

OR

  • Galilee Arts Experience: Hands-on experience in a ceramic workshop, soap-making or weaving at one of Tsfat’s leading Kabbalah galleries.
  • Return to the hotel for Dinner.
  • The Balance of Power on Israel’s Northern Border: Meet with (Ret) Sarit Zehavi, a former senior intelligence officer.

Day Seven: Wednesday, October 30, 2019
FROM THE GALILEE TO JERUSALEM

  • Breakfast at the hotel, followed by check-out.
  • Depart for the Hula Lake (Agamon HaHula) for bike-riding, golf-carting, nature walks and bird-watching.
  • Hands-on experience in modern-day goat farming at Ein Kamonim, with cheese-tasting and lunch.
  • Continue to Eshbal in the Lower Galilee, a kibbutz established by members of the Noar Ha’oved veHalomed youth movement, who have dedicated themselves to improving society through education and adapting kibbutz life to the 21st century.
  • Drive along the Trans-Israel Highway for a close-up view of the Security Barrier along the seam zone between Israel and the Palestinian Territories.
  • Ascend to Jerusalem and upon entering the city stop to recite the traditional “shehechiyanublessing.
  • Check into the hotel.
  • Dinner on own, perhaps at the Old Train Station Plaza, with its fashionable restaurants featuring local and international cuisine.

Day Eight: Thursday, October 31, 2019
JERUSALEM UNTANGLED

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • 1 City, 2 States, 3 Religions, and 4 Quarters: take a ride on Jerusalem’s light rail, starting at the Pisgat Ze’ev neighborhood, continuing through the Arab villages of Shuafat and Beit Hanina and ultra-Orthodox area of Ramot Eshkol, and ending at the Old City. Experience the mosaic and diversity of the Jerusalem population and discuss the difference between East and West Jerusalem and the ongoing struggles between the city’s different communities.
  • Experience the sights, smells, and tastes of Jerusalem while walking through the Machaneh Yehuda open-air market, with lunch on own.
  • Special visit to Yad Vashem, the Jewish National Memorial to the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust, focusing on the Art Museum, led by Yehudit Shendar, the senior art curator.
  • Free time to explore Downtown Jerusalem, including the Ben-Yehuda pedestrian mall and the Nachalat Shiva neighborhood, with dinner on own.

Day Nine: Friday, November 1, 2019
MATERIAL AND SPIRITUAL INSPIRATION

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Challenges and Triumphs of Religious Pluralism and Social Justice in Israel: Meet with Anat Hoffman, Executive Director of the Israel Religious Action Center (IRAC).
  • Tour the National Library archives and view various historical documents.
  • Lunch on own in the picturesque neighborhood of Ein Kerem, beneath the Jerusalem Forest.
  • LaDa’at Central Israel Wine Route: Take part in a Vintner’s Journey along the Judean Hills wine route, exploring some of the successful wineries that have sprouted in recent years: Elah, Tzora, Flam, Kastel, Tzuba, and Wine tasting is included.
  • Kabbalat Shabbat services at Kehillat Yozma in Modi’in.
  • Home Hospitality Shabbat dinner/communal Shabbat dinner with local congregants OR festive Shabbat dinner at the hotel.

Day Ten: Saturday, November 2, 2019
SHABBAT IN JERUSALEM

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Morning services at Azarat Israel, the pluralistic section of the Kotel (Western Wall).
  • LaDa’at Hebrew Writers: Walk through the streets of Jerusalem guided by the writings of its poets and authors - Yehuda Amichai, Y. Agnon and others.
  • Lunch on own, en route.
  • Explore the wonderfully creative Israel Museum, with its eclectic collection, ranging from archaeology and the Dead Sea Scrolls to Jewish life and art, European art, contemporary Israeli art and the open-air model of Jerusalem in the Second Temple period.
  • Ben Kodesh Lechol: Havdallah overlooking the Old City.
  • Late check-out from the hotel.
  • Festive farewell dinner at a local restaurant.
  • Transfer to Ben Gurion International Airport and depart the return flight, arriving the same day.

Need to Know

REGISTRATION DEADLINE: 24 Jul 2019

  • Group rates are per person based on double occupancy and a minimum of 15 full paying participants. Should the number of participants drop below the minimum listed above, we will adjust the cost of the trip to reflect the additional expense of operating the program.
  • Tour prices are per person in US. dollars. All hotel accommodations, motor coach transportation, special dinners, sightseeing, admissions, luggage handling and the services of local guides, drivers, and the tour guide/educator are included.

PAYMENT POLICY

Da'at Educational Expeditions reserves the right to adjust its terms of payment, including cancelation policies and initial deposits. Notification of any changes will be made explicitly to the participants where relevant.

  • Initial deposit of $500 per person, non-refundable, non-transferable is due at the time of reservation unless another amount is indicated for the particular trip or seminar.
  • Final payment is due 90 days before the scheduled trip begins, or as specified in your invoice.

CANCELATION POLICY

Cancelations need to be made in writing. Cancelation fees will be based on the date that the written cancelation is received.

Cancelation fees:

  • 90 days or more prior to departure: the deposit
  • 89 to 46 days prior to departure: 50% of the total trip cost
  • 45 days to the day of departure/no-show: 100% of the total trip cost

Cancelation fees may also include:

  • Hotel or supplier cancelation fees.
  • For trips in Israel only: The cost of the PEACE OF MIND TRAVEL PROTECTION PROGRAM (POM), if this was purchased.
  • Group airfare penalty fee.

TRAVEL INSURANCE

We strongly recommend that you purchase your own travel insurance. Please discuss land, air and health insurance options with your insurance provider or contact Travel Insured at 1-800-344-6226, ext. 257. Some insurance programs provide more comprehensive coverage when the policy is purchased in close proximity to the initial trip deposit. We therefore recommend that you secure insurance within 14 days of your initial deposit payment date.

HOTEL ACCOMMODATIONS

The trip price includes all hotel accommodations, in hotel rooms with private baths. Our standard is to provide the best available hotels while considering value. Although the level of the accommodations may differ slightly from hotel to hotel, we are committed to your comfort. Standard-size rooms are generally smaller outside of North America. They usually accommodate two people and include either one queen-size bed or two single beds (pushed together and made up separately, but with one headboard). While some hotels provide an extra bed in a standard-size room for use by a child under the age of 12, we recommend that families of four or more should book adjoining or connecting rooms.

MEALS

are included as specified in the itinerary.

TOUR EDUCATOR OR GUIDE

All trips are conducted by our tour educators or local guides who remain with the group throughout the tour.

GRATUITIES INCLUDED:

All gratuities for restaurant staff at group meals are included.

PRICE EXCLUDES

  • Transportation in the evening when dinner is on own.
  • Amendments to the program: In the event that any sites, programs or meals etc are added to the program, an additional fee may be required.
  • Personal extras: Items of personal nature such as laundry, wines, mineral water, beverages, coffee, tea, food other than the table d'hotel menu, passport and visa fees, insurance, and foreign port taxes, unless otherwise specified.
  • Water or snacks on the bus (unless indicated otherwise)
  • US and foreign airport taxes, Q fuel surcharge and border taxes when applicable.
  • Gratuities for Tour Educator (Guide) and Driver. We recommend the following guidelines for tips (amounts indicated in US dollars):
    Group of 20 participants and more:
    Tour Educator: $8 | Driver: $4 - per participant per day
    Group of 10-19 participants:
    Tour Educator: $10 | Driver: $5 - per participant per day
    Hostess (when included in the package):
    $2 per participant per day or a minimum of $50 per day total
    A security guard and/or a youth counselor (when included):
    $1 per participant per day per security guard, per youth counselor
